Long-Span Belt Barriers

The most common specification error in this category is buying a belt the same length as the gap. A belt at full extension has no give: it will not reach the receiver on a slightly wider span, it drags the posts inwards, and the cassette takes the load instead of the webbing.

The rule is straightforward — the belt should be about a fifth longer than the gap it closes. Tell us the span and we will tell you the belt, and we will put both numbers on the quote so anybody can check the arithmetic later.

Long spans need proportionally more from the brake, because there is more webbing wanting to return. Our long-span cassettes use a heavier brake for exactly that reason; a standard cassette fitted with nine metres of belt is a hand injury waiting to happen.
